Intel is a very well-recognized company, with a lot of H/W and S/W companies eager to work with Intel. Working as a software engineer at Intel bridges the gap between the Intel H/W and S/W worlds. You need to be rather careful about what to say and what not to say about what's coming in the future.
Like any big corporation, Intel's decision-making and job ladder advancement tends to be carried away by bureaucracy. Sometimes, politics wins over engineering decisions. If you are a die-hard engineer, hone your political skills to survive.
Intel has been getting better in terms of making the management layer thinner, and decision-making is getting faster.
