Pros
  • Good benefits.
  • Job security.
  • Big company with many career paths and technologies to learn.
  • Reasonable work/life balance compared to others.
  • For those from non-US locations, good opportunities for relocation assignments.
Cons
  • For SW engineers, it is far from the best place to be. Intel is a leader in HW and manufacturing process, but has a lot to improve in SW practices and services.
  • Disconnected from the end user.
  • Slow to react to industry trends.
  • For some people, it is the "government job of the Hi Tech industry".
  • Working in a non-US location can be frustrating at times, as for some parts of the company, all decisions are made by US managers.
Advice to Management

Put better emphasis on SW engineering. In this age, everybody is going vertical. With the decline of the PC segment, doing good HW just isn't enough.

Provide a better "bird's eye" view of the company and the technology to the small engineers on the ground. It is essential to morale.
