Intel challenges its workers. It tries to compensate them, but it's not quite there yet

Pros

Challenging work. Training opportunities. Global travel.

There is a certain pride in saying you work for Intel, even with the recent antitrust activities against Intel. I have a great manager and, if you have one of those, then life can be very good.

Cons

Having to defend it all the time because of all the anti-trust suits.

Long hours are expected and not rewarded.

Little support for alternative work schedules or telecommuting.

First-level managers can be excellent, but second-level managers have always lacked any type of skill.

Advice to Management

Stress ethics to everyone: salespeople (so they don't pressure customers and we can get rid of these suits), managers (so they will groom all their direct reports and not just a select few).

Trust your employees more. If there are some that can't be trusted, get rid of them. Don't punish everyone for the sake of a few bad apples.
