Pros

You will learn a lot that university courses will not teach you. You will gain very good practical experience to prepare you for a full-time position after you graduate. Most groups are very invested in your integration as an employee and will go out of their way to accommodate you. For engineering positions, the pay, even for interns, is very good.

Cons

In some groups, you may find yourself without enough experience to solve a problem, and the people you could ask may have too many meetings to help you out.

This will help you learn to research for yourself and think on your feet, but it can be stressful and exhausting.
