Pros

Talented coworkers: You’ll work with some of the sharpest engineers in the industry. Collaboration is strong across teams, especially in infrastructure, security, and systems groups.

Work-life balance: Very manageable. No expectation of long hours unless you’re in a customer-facing or mission-critical role. Generous PTO and flexibility with remote work.

Compensation & benefits: Competitive salary, solid annual bonuses, 401(k) matching, ESPP, and comprehensive health coverage. Sabbatical every 7 years is a great perk.

Internal mobility: Easy to switch teams if you want to explore different domains or technologies.

Cons

Pace of execution: Decision-making can be slow. Multiple layers of approval are often needed, which delays progress on cloud initiatives.

Too many legacy systems: A lot of time goes into maintaining infrastructure that should have been modernized years ago. Cloud efforts feel bolted on instead of being core to strategy.

Reduced innovation: Since recent restructuring and budget cuts, most of the work is now focused on support and maintenance rather than building new systems.

Leadership alignment: Different business units don't always operate with the same priorities. You can feel siloed depending on your org.

Advice to Management

If cloud is truly a priority, fund it accordingly and let teams build. Don’t stretch cloud engineers thin across five competing projects just to check boxes on roadmaps. Encourage actual innovation, not just rebranding existing systems as "cloud-native."
