No transparency. Performance review solely based on manager's preference.

Those employees had been contributing to Intel if they survived that long. Do you really need to destroy their careers (not only at Intel but also outside, as the information leaked to the public)? Who will hire those people labeled as "bottom"?
Do you trust those people who gave them bad ratings?
Have you communicated clearly to managers that stock level grants are equivalent to performance ratings?

It was over a decade ago, and mine was not a typical hiring process. I had specialized domain knowledge that is rare in India. The hiring manager knew me and sought me out through a headhunter. Hence, it was a simple conversation—not an interview!
Contacted first by a recruiter, followed by a four-hour on-site interview. No phone screen.
It was a very good experience. I was mostly reviewed over my resume. Topics covered included OS concepts such as paging, virtual memory, and the kernel. This was followed by a resume walk-through and a simple matrix multiplication coding exercise.
