I had a call with HR who scheduled a call with a senior engineer. HR mentioned it would be a technical interview, so I prepared accordingly. However, the interview focused more on what I am currently doing at my present company.
I received a call from HR the next day, stating they would not move forward because I am a QA person and lack industrial AWS experience, possessing only educational AWS knowledge. I had clearly mentioned all of this in my initial conversation with HR. I am unsure why they scheduled a technical interview and then rejected me for this reason.
At the very least, the engineer could have asked me questions about AWS and other technologies and made a decision based on that. I feel I wasted my precious time.
Ultimately, I wondered why a QA person cannot transition to a development role. Why don't people give opportunities?
The HR representative was professional throughout and was kind enough to call back and provide feedback personally, which is very much appreciated. Kudos to her.
What's your current role? I can tell you etc etc about what I am doing currently.
