I applied online. The process took 2 weeks.

Spoke with a recruiter to go through a high-level overview of my experience. This was followed by an interview with the engineering manager which entailed further exploration of my experience, skills, and preferences. Although the interviewer was initially a bit cold, I felt like the communication improved over the course of its duration and was told I got to the next round.

This was followed by a full-stack take-home test which was interesting. However, there's a significant amount to do given the suggested time. Even though it's stated that not everything has to be implemented, for obvious reasons as a candidate it's difficult to follow such guidance.

My submission was rejected as its quality was deemed not to be at the standard expected. From my side, I felt that the submission did pass the requirements and that perhaps my approach wasn't what they were looking for.

Unfortunately, they mentioned they could not give feedback within the rejection email, and when prompted about it in my reply, I was ignored, so I don't know what I did wrong. This is the first time I've been refused feedback on a take-home test. I've received feedback from tiny pre-seed startups to big tech companies. Maybe they really want to keep the 'ideal' solution under wraps, but even so, it shouldn't stop them from giving any feedback.

It's quite frustrating to spend significant time on something and not be able to know what you could've improved on. Job hunting is already effort- and time-consuming enough; the least one would hope is to be able to take something away from a rejection into future applications.
