The longest, yet the best, interview process I ever had.
I initially applied for Graduate C++ Game Developer and had a HireVue test shortly after. It included standard HR questions and two coding questions in C++. I am a Java Developer and had no prior C++ knowledge, but since the job description mentioned C++ or Java knowledge, I proceeded with the application. I was able to solve one C++ question, but for the other, I wrote code in Java within comments and filled in whatever I could in C++.
To my surprise, I passed this test and was asked to submit a C++ project I was proud of. Obviously, I had nothing in C++ to send, so I informed HR. The next day, I received a call from Sweden. They liked my application but had to disqualify me as they needed someone with strong C++ experience, and there had been a mistake in the job description, for which they apologized. The representative then mentioned she would check for any available graduate positions in Java at King and get back to me. She also asked me to send a Java project in the interim.
After a few days, I received another call regarding a Java position, and I was provided with the details. I liked the job and continued with my application. I was then invited to the Studios in London. The office was amazing.
I had a technical interview with two people (both young, but one had 8 years of experience and the other 3). The questions were based on my project. The interview was very challenging as I was asked numerous questions about Java and my project, including how HashMap works, concepts of Dependency Injection, Mocking, Testing, Thread pools, sizing thread pools, SQL Queries, and reasons for using interfaces in my project. They really grilled me, and although I could answer most of their questions, it was a tough interview.
On the same day, I had another interview with a graduate who asked me three HR questions and took notes. These were standard behavioral questions.
I felt I had done all right, not great, but within three to four days ONLY, I received a call informing me that I had cleared the interview and would be invited for the final round.
The final rounds consisted of two interviews: one with the Producer of Farm Hero Saga (a very nice guy) and the other with the Manager of Engineering (the person who would be my manager if I got the job). These were CV-based and HR interviews, again, pretty standard. All the interviews mentioned above were an hour long.
Afterward, I was properly shown the office, which I loved.
I had another offer from a company, so I asked King to expedite the process. They really did, and I received the outcome after two days from the best HR representative I have ever spoken to. She called me in the evening around 6 PM, stating it would take her two more days, and then called me again, saying she had somehow managed to get the feedback. I was offered the job.
In short, it was a very nice interview process with the best HR I have ever spoken with. I am currently in the process of making my decision, and she calls me daily with additional job details and answers all my questions. It was a long interview process, but it was worth it.
