The hiring process took six weeks. I was in another recruitment process concurrently and disclosed this to the recruiter, which didn't seem to affect my chances. The entire interview process was conducted via Google Meet calls.
A month or so after applying, I received an email from a talent acquisition manager inviting me to book a time through an online portal. The first part was:
Exploratory Interview (45 mins): This was a basic get-to-know-you interview to gauge my personality, skills, and so on. Be warned: you'll be asked for salary expectations during this call, which I deferred.
Logic Test & Bar-Raiser (1.5 hrs): The logic test is live, with an interviewer observing during a call. You receive the results immediately and can discuss them briefly. I found guides online (search for "Klarna Klattis test") and, with just rough familiarity with the patterns, I scored 17/18. I was told outright that a poor score wouldn't be a deal-breaker.
After the logic test came the "bar-raiser" – a behavioral interview based on three or four of Klarna's Leadership Principles. Be prepared with stories that demonstrate these principles. This interview was with another frontend designer and was the most valuable part of the process for me, as discussing key aspects of the job with them helped me prepare for subsequent steps.
Skills Interview (1.5 hrs): I met with a senior manager and another person in the role I was interviewing for. We discussed my design/programming experience and abilities, identifying my strengths and weaknesses. Two fifteen-minute tests concluded the interview: one where I explained a block of code, and another where I provided feedback on a design template. Knowing the basics of good UX design, React, and having an eye for detail to catch errors should see you through.
Team Fit Interview (45 mins): Two individuals I would be working with discussed everyday expectations and the workflow of the job. I was asked a couple more behavioral questions based on Klarna's leadership principles, and I had the opportunity to ask about daily life at Klarna, such as team collaboration and typical work schedules.
My final interview was on a Thursday afternoon, and I received a call offering me the position the following Tuesday. I worked for Klarna for six weeks, about as long as the recruitment pipeline, and then Klarna cut 10% of its workforce. Lol. That said, no one AT Klarna, including those in the interview process, posed any issues. Everyone was welcoming and positive. As a junior, I value aspects like support and opportunities for development.
Tell us one time you went the extra mile for a customer (Klarna Principle: customer obsession).
What was one time you were courageous? (Klarna Principle: courage)
