I recently completed a basic coding challenge online, followed by an engineering manager screen.
The first two rounds were very basic.
I was told the person they wanted for this job was someone coming from a startup, since the team operated that way.
In the final round, I had to block off a full day with five interviews. All of these interviews were pretty typical, including a well-structured system design.
The last interview was another engineering manager behavioral interview where the interviewer, seemingly reading from a sheet of paper, began asking big corporation management questions, despite knowing I came from a small startup.
This took me by surprise, and I was rejected due to my lack of large organization experience as well as experience working across multiple teams.
This was a very bad experience, as they wasted my time on a full day of interviews on top of the three previous rounds.
They knew full well they wanted a big corporation-type engineering manager, which I clearly was not.
If you want to work for a company that is extremely "big corporation," Klaviyo is for you. Don't believe it when they say they operate like a startup.
