Site Reliability Engineer Interview Experience - Mountain View, California

Process

I had an initial phone interview with a recruiter, going over the company and position, and a small handful of easy technical questions.

The second interview was also over the phone with one engineer, covering some lower-level Linux and monitoring issues and discussion.

The third interview was on-site and included:

  • Three technical sections
  • A one-on-one interview
  • Lunch
  • A behavioral interview

Questions

The recruiter asked general OS theory and DNS theory questions.

The second round focused on coding, including HTTPS API calls and recursion.

The on-site interview included debugging an Apache server issue, handling a site accident, and discussing site scale architecture.
