Senior Software Engineer Interview Experience - United States

May 1, 2023
Negative ExperienceNo Offer

Process

One round with the recruiter and one background check and coding round.

The recruiter was very professional.

The technical interviewer, on the other hand, was very rude.

There were two technical interviewers on the panel.

One dominated the interview and didn't let me or the other interviewer talk.

He would ask the other interviewer, "Do you have any questions?" and when the other interviewer started to talk, he would interrupt and say, "Wait, I still have questions."

Cringe.

He asked me a coding question, and at the end of that answer, I decided not to work for this company.

He asked me to find the duplicates in the array.

I used the object key method.

The interviewer asked why I had declared obj = {} and assigned a value to it like it's an array, obj[e] = 1;

He also asked me to get the first element of the arr without using an index, and arr.shift() was not the right answer either.

He wanted an "ES6 answer, not the JavaScript answer."

Please, someone give me an "ES6 answer, not the JavaScript answer" for getting the first element of the array without using an index.

I was confused.

I would have rejected the offer even if they made one.

I didn't want to work with someone who thinks ES6 is a language.

Questions

Get the duplicates in the array.

const arr = [1, 2, 3, 4, 1, 2, 10]
