Software Engineer (Level V) • Former Employee
Pros: Great salary and benefits. They respect their employees.
For interns, it's nice to have a mentor you are paired with.
Friendly culture.
Solid company mission. Lyft genuinely tries to do good for this world.
Cons: - Disorganized, somewhat chaotic. Depends on the team.
- Food is inconsistent and often not very healthy, unless you eat salads all the time. If I were working there full-time, I would likely bring my own food so I don't gain so much weight.
- Not a super fair comparison amongst interns for performance evaluations. I was told that there was no collaboration amongst mentors or objective standards set for intern evaluation. Two interns completed their project, and one received a mediocre to poor review while the other received an outstanding one.
- Don't assume you will be able to transfer teams easily. Preference can easily be given to new hires over yourself.
- Level 5 itself seems unsustainable and somewhat directionless with the progression being made. I don't know if the entire division's purpose is to increase stock value temporarily, but it seems like a poor investment with the ambiguity surrounding the self-driving industry.
