Process

I spoke with company representatives at an on-campus career fair and left both my resume and contact information on their laptop. A week or two later, I was contacted about participating in one of their "College Days" events, where they flew me out to their location in Natick, PA.

The interview process consists of three parts:

  • A technical interview (1.5-2 hours)
  • A manager interview (1 hour)
  • An HR interview (1 hour)

The technical interview can be a bit challenging. Some of the questions cover basic topics that you might not have practiced recently. It can feel a little embarrassing to struggle with such simple problems, but try to relax and work through them.

Unfortunately, the interviewer did not provide any feedback on my answers, whether right or wrong. After my explanations, there was just a pause, a blank look, and then we moved on.

The manager interview focuses on assessing your personality. The manager I spoke with was excellent, and the conversation was very interesting and painless overall.

The HR interview is similar to the manager interview, but about half of the time is dedicated to explaining MathWorks, including company policies and medical coverage.

Overall, MathWorks seems like a very interesting company to work for. The employees I spoke with appeared happy, and the interactions did not feel or seem scripted.

You will be notified within a week if they are interested in hiring you. At that point, they will contact your references and conduct a background check. This is where I currently stand.
