I applied to the Cambridge, UK EDG program. The process had six stages in total and lasted just over two months. I made it to the final stage but was unfortunately rejected at the end.
HireVue virtual interview: This involved a 3-question, all-behavioral interview. You are asked a question and then have a couple of minutes to give a response.
HackerRank OA: This consisted of three sections, and you could choose to complete two out of the three. The sections were a math questions section, a coding questions section, and a Matlab multiple-choice portion. I completed all three as I thought my programming section had gone wrong.
Technical Interview: If you pass the OA, they then set up a technical interview with an EDG member. Here, they review your resume, asking about your projects and experiences. They then inquire about how you approached the coding portion of your OA from the last round. Following that, they build upon the OA coding questions and ask related programming questions. Finally, the interview concludes with some OOP concept questions and a couple of math questions.
Phone Interview with an EDG manager: This was a 30-minute call with an EDG manager where they asked about your resume, experiences, and a few behavioral questions.
HR interview: This was another short call, this time with a member of the HR team. They ask some standard behavioral questions (e.g., "Why MathWorks?", "Why the EDG program?") and then discuss what the company could potentially offer you if you are successful.
Final Round - Virtual Onsite afternoon: Before Covid, this round would have been completed in person; however, since that was not possible, I completed it virtually. This round consists of a technical interview with two EDG members, a more extended HR interview, and a longer interview with a manager from the EDG department. In total, the three interviews lasted for four hours, including short breaks in between.
The technical interview was a close examination of everything technical you have claimed to know on your CV. For me, that consisted of explaining one of my projects in detail, questions about machine learning, then a coding question. After that, questions on algorithms and data structures, and finally, some Maths questions. The other two interviews that followed focused more on behavioral questions, where they tried to understand me as a person and whether I would be a right fit for the company.
Please tell us about a project where you faced a challenge and overcame it.
