Pros: Most people I work with on a daily basis have a serious and committed attitude. People are generally helpful, reasonable, and polite.
There's a good range of benefits and good salaries.
Managers strive to be fair with their employees. If your performance is good, you will be rewarded. They'll work with you to help you grow.
Cons: Many software development processes are done using the company's own tools and systems. The tools are generally okay, but that means that some employees don't have so many opportunities to ramp up on software development technologies with wider application in the outside world. There are, however, plenty of opportunities to work with many different technologies if you choose the team and project wisely.
