I interviewed with two teams.
For the first team, I came in for a two-hour on-site "half day." However, I was not found to be a suitable match. The half-day consisted of four 30-minute sessions with team members, where I answered typical software and data model design questions. These were not difficult questions like those involving minimum cost to fill a bag with weight, optimization, or breadth-first vs. depth-first search algorithms, but rather traditional, requirement-oriented design questions. I felt the questions went well, so I believe it was a poor skill fit for the team and not a result of failed answers. At that on-site, I also had a coffee with the Engineering Director overseeing both teams I was speaking with.
For the second team, I was then invited for a "full day." I gave an hour-long presentation, including time for Q&A, to the full interview team. This presentation covered a project I had worked on, providing common background. I then had a series of one-on-one interviews: with two developers, one quality engineer, one senior technical lead/team lead, and one hiring manager. There was also lunch with the HR representative. Most of the interviews were discussion-based, focusing on technology and solutions related to my presentation, rather than solving random algorithms or problems. The time with the HR representative was not a formal interview but a discussion about benefits.
After that, there was a slight delay. This was due to a week-long school vacation during which MathWorks personnel were out of the office and unable to sign off on paperwork. Ultimately, a job offer was made. The entire process took approximately six weeks, and the HR representative and I maintained close communication via email for most of this period.
How do I ensure enough bikes make it from start to finish as more bikes enter a bike path and more obstacles are added to it?
