Software Engineer Interview Experience - Toronto, Ontario

Process

  1. Initial AI Chat: The first round involved an AI interview that felt absurd and disconnected from evaluating human skills and potential.

  2. Live Coding Challenge: The second round was a live coding session with a strict 20-minute time limit. The first 10 minutes were allocated to introductions, leaving only 10 minutes for the actual task. This time frame was highly insufficient to read, comprehend, and solve the given problem, explain the solution to the interviewer, and parse a random input string for the method written.

The overall experience was challenging and not conducive to demonstrating the depth and breadth of my capabilities. The constraints and design of the interview process seemed better suited for an AI’s rapid processing abilities rather than a human’s nuanced problem-solving skills.
