Process
I applied through another source. The process took 3 days.
It was a remote interview. The recruiter asked me about my CV and aspirations, and explained the responsibilities of the position. They also explained how viable it was to rotate within the company in the future, since my intention was to live abroad for a season.

Fast growth provides challenges
Engineer • Current Employee
New York, New York, United States
September 22, 2012
Pros: There are so many things that need to be done with the high growth rate of the company that nobody is pigeon-holed in just one place or one just one type of job.
Flexible hours and vacation are great but underused by many.
People are happy to hear your ideas and discuss them. As an open-source company, there is no limitation to what you can do on the internet with MongoDB.
Cons: Like any growing company, there are more challenges along the way. These include:
* Lack of organization, responsibilities, definition, and roles.
* Trouble with building effective communication channels internally (between groups and departments).
* Lots of new employees which need to learn/train before being effective.
* Holding work quality high.
* Professionalism.
* Overworked and under-acknowledged employees.
* Providing structure for professional growth internally.

Culture is very different by region
Engineer • Current Employee
August 11, 2022
Pros: Still a sharply growing company, with lots of product needs in the market.
Very good global culture and global leadership.
Cons: Small regions with few employees have their own unique culture. All employees are controlled by a high-level sales manager.
A sales-oriented culture does not respect an engineer's voice.
Salaries are no longer competitive compared to other data platform vendors.

Great Team, Manager Vacation
Engineer • Current Employee
New York, New York, United States
September 13, 2015
Pros: Great co-workers, wonderful learning opportunities, and flexible hours. There is genuine concern from management about how they stack up. The people who work here are invariably smart, and everybody is friendly. They are also aggressive about training and promoting internally, which is great!
Cons: The "unlimited" vacation kind of depends on your manager. I would like it better if they had something additional, like "we mandate a minimum of 2 weeks of vacation per year," so that it's clear that you're expected to use your vacation time. Also, please implement 401(k) matching!
