Software Engineer Interview Experience - United States

Process

The technical interview process was a significant disappointment.

The problem was not from a pre-vetted list but was typed out live by the interviewer during our call.

This live-typed question contained several typos and logical inconsistencies, making it impossible to understand the actual requirements. The interviewer was unable to clarify the ambiguities when asked, and a promised visual explanation using a graph was never provided.

After several attempts to get a clear definition of the task, I felt it was unproductive to continue and chose to withdraw from the process.

An interview should be a fair assessment, and this felt unstructured and unfair to the candidate.

Please standardize your technical interview questions and ensure they are thoroughly vetted for errors and ambiguity before being presented to candidates. Provide interviewers with clear guidelines on how to explain problems and a backup plan if a question proves to be flawed.

Questions

A 2D pathfinding question.

The question itself is fine, but the typed question has typos, and the provided example has an error.
