I was contacted by the Hiring Manager through LinkedIn, followed by HR scheduling a technical interview.
I was interviewed by the manager for one hour, followed by two team interviews, each lasting one hour. In total, the interview day lasted four hours, with 10-15 minute breaks between sessions.
I was asked behavioral questions and some technical questions about my previous work during my PhD. The whole interview was very easy and mostly discussion-based. Most people on the team seemed very friendly. I was asked if I was okay to relocate to Kansas, and I denied. HR told me the team was moving forward with another candidate.
A few days later, the Hiring Manager rudely asked why I had missed the interview with his team, mentioning it was unprofessional. He also stated that HR had informed him I did not attend the interview because I had accepted another job.
I had to respond to the manager's message politely. I replied that there seemed to be some misunderstanding, as I had completed the entire interview and never missed any part of it. I also clarified that I was not selected by his team.
After sharing a screenshot of my email conversation with a professor, which proved I had not missed the interview and that HR/the team had misinformed him, he apologized to me.
I found the whole process very unprofessional and filled with "junk people." I would advise that even if you receive a low salary offer, do not go to this company. The culture and the people are not professional, and you will not have a good experience with them.
