Process

Sharing a recent experience while interviewing for a managerial role. The process lasted close to two months and unfortunately ended without any closure.

I applied online.

After two weeks, I received an email from HR1 asking for available time slots for an exploratory call.

I responded with my availability, but shortly after, I received a rejection email.

Then HR1 called and asked for my salary expectations. I mentioned the rejection, but she said it was fine – probably a system error – and we continued.

I spoke with a director.

Then I went through three rounds:

  • First round (coding)
  • Second round (system design)
  • Third round (managerial)

A week of silence, then HR2 called to schedule a final round with another director. The director mentioned I’d get an update the next day.

Ten more days passed. Then HR1 called again – this time asking for salary documents. I asked about the previous round’s outcome and was told the concerned person was on vacation. When I asked if the offer process was moving forward, she said yes. I sent the docs to HR1 and HR2.

That was the last I heard. I sent a follow-up email, but got no response.

It wasn’t just the delay that was disappointing – it was the lack of communication and transparency. At no point was it shared that multiple candidates were being considered or that the process could take this long.

I understand hiring is complex, especially for senior roles. But after investing time across multiple rounds and sharing personal information, a simple follow-up – even a “no” – would’ve shown basic professionalism.

If companies expect candidates to be professional, responsive, and respectful, the same should be expected from the hiring team.

By the way, the job is still open even after five months.
