Software Engineering Manager Interview Experience - Sunnyvale, California

Process

An internal employee passed my resume along to the hiring manager. The manager conducted an initial phone screen to check for fit. After the screen, I received an email stating the company would like to proceed forward, and the company HR recruiter became engaged in the process.

An all-day onsite interview was scheduled, during which I spoke with six individuals, ranging from engineers to managers. Some questions focused on various project and people situations and how I would manage them. Other questions explored my past project experiences and the architectures of the products/systems I worked on.

There were some technical questions, where a high-level understanding of the concept was the expected answer.

About a week after the onsite interview, the recruiter contacted me and inquired about salary expectations to draft an offer. A few days later, a formal verbal offer was presented.

I believe leveraging the internal referral channel was key to getting the initial contact.

Overall, the entire process went relatively smoothly.

Questions

There was no question that I deemed unexpected or most difficult. But the questions that drilled into specific details of my past projects made me pause to gather my memory before I could answer.
