Process

The interview process involved three phone interviews: one with HR and two technical.

An onsite loop consisted of two parts. The first part included four technical interviews and one HR interview. Positive feedback from this part led to the second part, which involved meeting with two directors.

Overall, the interview experience was great. I met smart people I would have enjoyed working with, including the team's manager. I performed well in the technical portions and met with the two directors.

The first director was from HR, and the second was my potential skip-level manager. The interaction with him was the least positive of all my meetings that day. It seemed as though he entered the meeting with a negative bias.

Two days later, I was informed I was not a fit for the role. The team's manager sent me feedback, which I appreciated as companies often refrain from providing candidates with direct feedback.

Based on this feedback, I am certain that my meeting with the last director ultimately cost me the job. This is unfortunate, as Netflix appears to be a great company with excellent people.

My biggest tip is to remain focused throughout the entire interview process. Every interview counts, including the final two director interviews, which may seem more relaxed but are equally crucial.

Another important tip, which was reflected in the feedback I received, is to demonstrate passion and enthusiasm for the company and the role. They seek individuals who are genuinely engaged with the company's domain and the specific area of the role. A lack of enthusiasm can be a deciding factor against hiring.
