Pros

Nokia's security business is stable, and thus layoffs are minimized. Overall Head Office policies are sound. Beautiful campus and a good cafeteria.

Cons

The security business in Mountain View is very poorly managed. The hostile relationship between Nokia (platform supplier) and Checkpoint (application supplier) allowed other companies to win business.

The actual management in that organization is mediocre at best, but they are very good at in-fighting, especially between the Boston and California branches. Very juvenile.

The company had a lot of issues integrating the security business into their overall business model. The marriage to Enterprise was questionable, as there were few, if any, synergies.

It really looked like a holding ground for people uninterested in challenging themselves.

Advice to Management

Implement serious HR reviews where the bottom 5-10% are removed yearly.
