This may come across as resentful, as I interviewed for a position with Nuro and was not offered the job. Let me assure you that is not the case. However, I feel it is critically important to raise awareness about the unprofessional treatment I was subjected to during my onsite interview. A review in a similar vein will shortly be published on Glassdoor.
First, I was greeted in the lobby by a pleasant receptionist who offered me a seat. I was then led to an interview room and told to expect a 2.5-hour process, during which I would meet with at least three people, including the hiring manager.
The two individuals who interviewed me introduced themselves briefly, without stating their titles within the company. They then abruptly sat down right next to me, instead of across the table. I find this practice unprofessional at best, as it makes it difficult to maintain eye contact. I felt uncomfortable and stifled by such physical closeness, which was sometimes awkward.
I was asked to perform two tasks that were not in line with the job description:
Throughout the process, the interviewers asked questions unrelated to the job description and scoffed at any improvements or fixes I suggested. At times, they could be heard chuckling softly or looking at each other behind my back. I felt discriminated against by two people who are arguably less qualified from an academic standpoint, if not from a character standpoint. This dilettante conduct makes me question the ethics of upper management. If these individuals are decision-makers within a startup that wants to revolutionize the world of robotics, call me skeptical at best.
My interview was cut short after 45 minutes due to "an emergency" that was not disclosed to me. I would appreciate transparency, in the form of, "Sorry, we do not feel you would fit in with our company culture at this time. Best of luck in your future endeavors."
Nuro, I am disappointed in the way you conduct your business. I wish you luck in pushing your products and changing the world, but rest assured, I will never recommend your company within my extended circle.
