Software Engineer Interview Experience - Norway

Process

The position was posted on Stack Overflow. I submitted my application, and two days later, the recruiter called, informing me that I needed to complete a test.

I finished the online test, which was on HackerRank, over the weekend. It was relatively complicated, and I spent about four hours on it. I achieved a perfect score.

The next day, the recruiter requested a Skype interview. We scheduled it for 6 PM the same day. However, at 6:02 PM, the recruiter emailed to say she couldn't attend, so we rescheduled for the following week.

The recruiter has no technical background. She asked about the achievements in my current position that I'm most proud of. I provided an example related to video compression. She seemed not to understand it at all and eventually asked, "What is video compression?" The other questions were general textbook interview questions, unrelated to programming and entirely useless.

The following day, she sent a pre-written email thanking me for my interest.

This company first asks candidates to complete a complicated test and then speak with a non-technical person who asks useless questions. Therefore, when asked to take the test, try to have the interview first. Otherwise, it's highly likely that completing the test is a waste of time, especially since the recruiter is not punctual at all.
