Process

NOTE: This post may be a bit long as I tried to portray the entire interview process.

It all started after I received a call from the hiring manager. She stated that she had come across my profile on a job portal and found that it matched an open requirement. She scheduled the interview for the next day.

I was interviewed for a J2EE Developer position. The interview process involved four rounds:

  1. Telephonic Interview: Basic but tricky questions on core Java, including topics like the Collection Interface, Map, Throwable Interface, and Multithreading. The interview went well (though not excellent) as I couldn't prepare 100%.

After a week, I received a call from the hiring manager for my face-to-face interview at the Oracle office.

  2. Technical Face-to-Face Interview: This started with features of Java 8, my past projects, and almost all types of data structures (very important when preparing for an Oracle interview). We covered writing code and algorithms on a whiteboard and touched upon most of Java and a little bit of JSP. It went pretty well; I almost answered all the questions.

  3. Technical Face-to-Face Interview: This round was quite tough and tricky. It began with questions surrounding my work on past projects, then involved writing sorting algorithms (with some tweaks), B-Trees, and in-depth discussions on a few Java topics. It went really amazing!

  4. Managerial Interview: I was interviewed by the hiring manager about my past projects, behavioral questions, notice period, salary discussions, and so on. This went okay, as managers are often not completely satisfied with what they receive from their peers.

By the end of the day, the interview process had gone very well. The interviewers had a very friendly attitude. I was selected and received my offer letter after a month (background verification took almost 20 days).
