A program called Dev Academy allows new software engineers to learn the tools and processes needed to do their job. This is great because a new engineer who just graduated from college and has never worked on a team before would feel very overwhelmed if they didn't go through this. It allows the engineers to learn the processes and somewhat choose the areas they want to focus on working on before being assigned to an actual team.
The pay is pretty standard for starting out. However, the growth just simply isn't there. They really look to hire new engineers to do some of the dirty work and wait for them to leave by not giving raises. I would suggest a year or two maximum for the experience and then look for opportunities elsewhere.
Note: All of this could change with the Oracle acquisition.
