I was approached by a recruiter from the company. He helped me well during the whole process, explaining each step and how I could best prepare for them.
The first step was a phone interview, which covered my background and interests. I wasn't aware that there would be some deeper motivational questions, but it was not a problem nonetheless.
The next step was an online coding exercise on HackerRank called "Catching an Insider Trader." I thought it wasn't too difficult and only required knowledge of some basic data structures. A tip I give is that you need to read the description very carefully.
After that, I had a video meeting with a member from the engineering team. This session included talking about my experiences and passions within software engineering. I also received a coding challenge: implementing a hash table without libraries in a chosen language. For this exercise, it is definitely helpful if you brush up on hash tables beforehand.
Finally, I was invited to an on-site interview. The travel and stay were taken care of very professionally, with accommodation in an upscale hotel close to the office. On the day itself, I believe I had four interviews with different members of the company. These included a classic algorithmic problem-solving exercise, a debugging exercise, an architecture design exercise, and a more general talk. In each session, there were also some questions about my experience and why I want to work at Palantir, plus extra time to ask questions of my own. The level of the challenges was good, and I actually enjoyed them. Also, the people I met gave a very positive impression of the company.
In the end, I didn't get an offer because "we do not have a position that is a strong match for your qualifications at this time," without a more specific reason, as "the company policy is to refrain from providing detail on hiring decisions." This was actually quite a disappointment because it didn't give me anything to work with.
