Mission-oriented staff. If you believe in the arts and supporting creators, this has been at the forefront of Patreon's mission. To a large degree, they continue to deliver.
The senior management has no idea what they want or where they are headed. I started just a few months after a large layoff wiped out a huge number of teams. I began in the midst of a hiring push in an effort to fill out the ranks of talent the company had only recently vacated. Just seven months later, with no clearly defined mission from senior management, another complete change of direction brought in a new C-level exec who saw fit to again wipe out entire engineering groups. In this latest reorganization, the fired employees, many of them highly accomplished, with the company for a long time and responsible for key infrastructure, were told they were simply "not needed" and that Patreon sought a different skill set.
Some employees who had been laid off had been with the company literally only three weeks. Can you imagine going through the angst and rigamarole of finding a new job, interviewing, making life choices based on it, and then being laid off three weeks in? Absolutely disgusting.
Among the leadership who took hits were key parts of the company's D&I efforts. Patreon may have been good at this in the past, but their senior leadership is demented.
You can't build a good company by cutting people down before they even have a chance to develop roots.
