Backend Engineer Interview Experience - Tokyo, Japan

October 2, 2023
Negative ExperienceNo Offer

Process

The interview process goes like this:

  1. 1st Round: Basic technical interview with the manager and one technical lead from the team.
  2. 2nd Round: Take-home assignment where you'll be asked to implement a web server for Forex or a restaurant using Scala or Rust.
  3. 3rd Round: Discussion about the submitted assignment.

In my view, this was the worst interview experience I've ever had. You complete the assignment with production-grade coding. Then, in the assessment round, they ask stupid, useless questions, mostly because the people conducting the interview were not qualified enough. They will waste 90 minutes of your time.

Even though you explain your solution properly, after a week they informed my recruiter they do not want to proceed with the candidate. Seriously, a total waste of time.
