I submitted my application for an open job requisition on ebaycareers.com and received a call from a recruiter the same day. I had an initial conversation with her, followed by a phone screen the next day. After that, I was asked to come in for an interview at their office. I met with four or five people, each focusing on a different area of interest during their questioning. I had to write code on a whiteboard and discuss my "code" and rationale.

I also met with a manager.

Following the office interview, I received a call within a week asking if I could fly to their office in San Jose, California. At the time, I was in Phoenix, Arizona. They arranged everything, and I flew out in the morning. I underwent the same type of office interviews, but with seven different people, and then flew home that night. It was an exhausting day, but I felt they were very clear about the kind of person they were looking for and wanted to ensure they hired the right candidate. This was encouraging, given they were willing to fly me to their headquarters, but also somewhat stressful as I wondered if I would make the cut after such an extensive process.

In the end, they extended an offer, which I accepted. They also conducted a background check, which seems standard these days. This took some time, so from application submission to my first day was probably about five or six weeks.

I don't want to give too much away, but I was surprised that they wanted me to code and see how I approached coding for certain problems. If you interview there, you better know your stuff because they will want you to prove it.
