Software Development Engineer (SDE) II Interview Experience - Bengaluru, India

March 1, 2021
Negative ExperienceNo Offer

Process

The process involved three rounds of technical discussion and one round of techno-managerial discussion. It was one of the worst hiring experiences I have ever had.

Let me tell you, I had more cancelled interviews than the number of rounds I actually appeared for. They would schedule an interview and then cancel it.

The recruiter I was interacting with is the worst recruiter I have communicated with in my career. After the Hiring Manager round, my feedback was positive. However, the recruiter stated that the position was closed. I understood and accepted this, expecting a rejection. But instead, after all the positive feedback, they decided not to reject me directly. The recruiter then said she would arrange one more Hiring Manager round with a different manager, as I had already cleared all technical rounds, and that this would be completed within two to three days. I agreed.

After that, a month passed. I tried calling two to three times and sent a few emails, but they ignored my calls and didn't reply. The story, however, is not over yet. I thought, 'Fine, to hell with it. I don't need an offer from you; I'm happy with what I have.' But no, after a month, she called again, asking for another final Hiring Manager interview. We even discussed salary and joining dates. I forgot to mention that she had a similar discussion about compensation and my last working day a month prior.

Anyway, she scheduled another final Hiring Manager round with a different manager. She also called again to let me know that she could not match my current offer in terms of the fixed component and asked if I would be okay with a lower number. I agreed.

All seemed well, and after another month, I had hope of joining them. But wait, I just woke up, checked my phone, and the Hiring Manager round was cancelled again, without any reply or email stating the reason. I just want to reply to her email saying, 'Go to hell, I don't need a job offer from you.'

If you are good and have a competitive offer, please don't consider joining them. Every person in a company represents the culture of what's happening inside, and this is a story about their culture.

PS - I am still not sure if they want me or not, and they may approach me again, but I have made up my mind not to join them now.

Questions

Technical discussions were mainly around data structures and algorithms.

Question level was medium to hard, and mostly around dynamic programming.
