Pros
  1. Competitive compensation.
  2. Good benefits.
Cons
  1. Little to no development, mostly Ops-related work.
  2. Strenuous on-call rotation and high-pressure environment, with no work-life balance.
  3. Lots of finger-pointing between SWE and SRE. SRE is generally looked down upon by SWE. This leads to a non-collaborative and low-trust atmosphere between teams that should be working towards the same goal.
  4. Repetitive tasks that never stop coming. If you suggest some automation, it will be shot down by seniors in the name of reliability.
  5. Most of the time, you will get last-minute requests, and half of the developers will lie about the priority and urgency of a request to get their work done quickly.
Advice to Management

Give more power to SRE in decision making and improve the type of work you are giving to SREs.
