AI Product Engineer Interview Experience

Process

I applied online. The process took two weeks.

I went through an interview at PostHog and was met with an extremely friendly HR (screening - 30min), engineering manager (tech interview - 1h), and founder interview (culture - 15min). Screening was regarding motivation and past experiences. The tech interview was great, and there were no gotcha-styled questions, just two people discussing optimal technical solutions for designing an online store analytics functionality. In my case, the founder interview felt completely misaligned with the rest of the process. I kept my answers concise because we clearly had limited time, but when I asked questions, the responses turned into long monologues that came across more like self-praise than an actual conversation. It also seemed like I was being evaluated on how much I praised the product rather than on my skills or fit. After investing time in the earlier interviews, it was disappointing to get rejected at what essentially felt like a 15-minute "praise session." Overall, the experience felt like a waste of time for both me and the first two interviewers who ran more structured and meaningful conversations.
