Software Engineer Interview Experience - Mountain View, California

Process

A recruiter contacted me regarding my online application.

I was sent an online coding challenge.

After clearing the coding challenge, the process consisted of one phone interview with the hiring manager.

I was invited onsite after that.

There were two rounds of onsite interviews on the first day.

I heard back from the recruiter saying the feedback was positive and was invited for another three rounds of onsite interviews after three days.

After the second set of onsite interviews, I heard back that since the teams are small, they require strong technical skills.

I was disappointed as they told me initially that the feedback was positive in the first two rounds.

Questions

Focus is mainly on design-related questions.

Also, in-depth knowledge of how things work at the computer memory level is important.

Examples include:

  • Virtual functions implemented in memory.
  • Array or linked list implementation of a Stack: which is better with respect to memory, and when would you use each.
  • Buddy bitmap questions, as mentioned in some reviews.

It looks like they have a standard set of questions for all positions in general.
