Process

Note: This answer is for hardware profiles.

There are two stages:

Stage 1:

  1. Resume Shortlisting based on GPA (cut off above 7)
  2. Online Test

Stage 2: Two one-to-one technical interviews and one one-to-one HR interview.

More information: For the online test, there are three sections conducted on the HirePro platform:

  1. Aptitude (compulsory for all)
  2. Code Debugging (compulsory for all)
  3. Electronics/Software/Communication profiles (choose one from three)

Note: There is NO inter-section skipping, but YES intra-section skipping. The time limit for each section is 30 minutes. 60 questions in 90 minutes. Fight with time, or you will be lost FOR SURE.

Sources of preparation:

  1. Aptitude (20 questions in 30 minutes) Indiabix (do the apti section, all topics) for getting an idea of where to start. And Pariksha website for rigorous practice of the same sections as Indiabix. I hope you are getting my point. Focus more on Data Interpretation and logical questions, as there are 8 questions from these topics only. The time factor decides everything. Start at least 3 months before; spend one hour per day; it would be sufficient.

  2. Coding section (20 questions in 30 minutes) Read GeeksforGeeks articles and solve MCQs from their website. Focus more on functions, pointers, structures, storage classes, arrays, and combinations of all the above. Know what compiler errors, linker errors, etc., are in depth. Questions are about finding which type. #imp thing: See video lectures of Operating Systems. See video lectures of Computer Architecture and Organisation.

##most imp thing: Read Data Structures and Algorithms from Narasimha Karumanchi's book (Data Structures Made Easy book). Topics: time and space complexity, strings, linked lists, doubly linked lists, trees, graphs, stacks, queues, sorting, searching. These are more than enough. Learn how to write code, pseudocode, and find complexities because they will be asking these again in interviews.

Electronics section: (20 questions in 30 minutes) Digital electronics: flip-flop interconversion, counters (both asynchronous and synchronous), combinational logic (calculating propagation delay). Imp: Minimum number of gates required to implement a function. STA few questions. Implementation of EXOR and EXNOR using NAND and NOR. Practice properly how to get these because they will be helpful in interviews (the derivation).

questions from Computer Architecture and Organisation, Microprocessor, ADC, DAC, memory types, DSP, Signals and Systems, basic analog electronics like gain calculations, oscillators, timers-555 and op-amp-based multivibrators, K-map, FSM, interconversion of FSMs, etc.

Logic families like ECL, TTL, DTL, RTL, HTL, etc. Recommended resources from an interview point of view and knowledge depth requirements: Read in depth about CMOS inverter, static CMOS, dynamic CMOS, stick diagram, delay calculation. Read STA from Weste and Harris, Chapter 10. Read CMOS inverter from Kang and Rabaey. Low power design techniques from Rabaey. Logic families from R.P. Jain.

For interviews, do Udemy courses by Kunal Ghosh. I had written what to do in one of my interview questions; you can check there.

Advice: Start one year before the placement session begins because the interviews are based on OT results, not on CGPA. Carry four copies of your CV for interviews.

Stay confident and prepare for the HR interview two weeks before the online test.

All the best.

Don't worry about the result; if you really work hard, I am emphasizing true hard work; success will be yours. Don't worry about GPA; it doesn't affect at all. Focus on a strong concept-building approach for solving problems.

Read and practice on paper whatever you read. Don't cheat yourself by not following the last two lines.

Qualcomm is the most prestigious company for any electrical/electronic student, so focus more.

One last thing: Browse through the company's website page one week before. One of my questions was: "Tell us what technology we use in the latest Snapdragon processor, why, and what is the outcome of it." Go through their website, LinkedIn pages, etc.

Questions

Explain the physical design flow with detailed explanations of each step.

What is OCV?

How do you fix setup and hold violations before chip fabrication and after?

About projects: As my projects are related to 8051, the questions were of sufficient depth.

Logical puzzles.

One thing: Do Udemy courses by Kunal Ghosh.

Physical Design Flow:

  • CTS-1
  • CTS-2
  • SI
  • STA-1
  • STA-2

These are more than sufficient to get placed in any hardware job.
