I put my application in through the Qualcomm careers website and received a quick response within a week. HR emailed me to provide suitable dates and times. I sent them my preferred slots for a phone interview, and the next day HR replied with a selected time. The HR seemed very responsive, and the interview was set up for the earliest possible date.
The interviewer called me and started with a basic review of my CV. As I am in R&D, there were many questions and details about my projects and research. The interview then shifted to technical questions related to programming. One question was on software design; the interviewer asked how I would go about developing a basic operating system/file system. I responded that you first define the objectives and gather user/customer inputs. Then, define the structure, for example, you need a file system management module, display, user input, file editing, etc. I explained how these would be tied together by implementing abstract classes to define APIs. The interviewer was primarily interested in my thought process and problem-solving approach.
Following that, I was asked to rate myself at C++ and discuss my weaknesses with the language. After about 45 minutes, the interviewer began discussing their projects and work. I was given a chance to ask questions and inquire about possible start dates.
I received a call for a second interview and am waiting on that.
Update: One month after the first interview, I received the offer.
