Process

Applied through referral, I was called for an on-site interview.

Total of 8 rounds. Overall, none of the interviewers were prepared, and none of them were on time.

The HR was the first to interview me. She arrived 10 minutes after the scheduled time and asked about my present salary, other benefits, and relocation, etc. It was a hardly 10-minute talk, and then she gave me a list of interviewers and schedules. She then came to the lobby and provided another list with some adjustments to the schedules.

I was waiting in the lobby for another 35 minutes. The first technical interviewer arrived 15 minutes late and took me to his office. He stated, "I don't know why the hiring manager asked to interview you, anyway, tell me about yourself." This was followed by a 30-minute whiteboard interview.

He dropped me back in the lobby. The next interviewer arrived 20 minutes late. Then came the same set of questions, and he took me to lunch in the cafeteria.

Headed to another building. The third was the most important person, the Hiring Manager. He was 10 minutes late and spoke with me for 5 minutes before telling me he had another very important appointment and rescheduled my interview for the end of the day.

Waiting in the lobby for another 40 minutes.

The fourth person was somewhat okay because he was not very late. He then asked for a resume from me. The same set of questions, from "tell me about yourself" to work experience, etc.

Back to the lobby. The next person arrived at the lobby 10 minutes late. He explained that he was late because he tried to print my resume. Then he asked some very basic electronics engineering questions. I did not do well in this round because I hadn't revised basic circuit theory. He looked very disappointed and asked, "What do you know in electronics?" That round ended somehow.

He took me to the next interviewer's office. We waited in his office for 10 minutes. The interviewer arrived and looked shocked to see us in his office. He started asking some basic physics laws. I don't know if we use them anywhere in a Yield Engineer job, but I managed to give some reasonable explanations.

Back to the lobby, I waited there for another 1 hour. The receptionist told me that the interview round was canceled as the next person was out due to some urgent work. The hiring manager asked me to wait for him.

The hiring manager returned after office hours. He took me to a conference room and explained the job roles and responsibilities, team hierarchy, etc. Then he asked some questions about my work experience and the paper I recently published, etc. Finally, he asked the usual question, "Do you have any questions?" I used this time to ask him. I was completely exasperated by the previous interviewers' time management and questions. I asked him, "Do we need to use any physics laws in the job? Is there any problem with watches at QUALCOMM because no one is on time?" He simply smiled and said, "We are very busy; you know how busy we are in meetings, bla bla."

Then he told me he would email me within 2 weeks. It's already been 3 weeks. I sent a reminder as a formality, and he replied with the same sentences he told me in the interview. Should I expect anything more from this team?
