Pros

Decent benefits. Easy to gain experience even if you don't have any (careful, this is also a con).

Cons

Everything gets lost in translation. Too many layers of management that don't have a clue about the technology below surface level.

Low talent gets put into high talent-required positions because management doesn't know what makes a good engineer. You can tell it's been a cycle of promoting unqualified people for over a decade.

As a software engineer in a hardware heavyweight industry, I recommend you stay away. If you want a good software company to grow in, make sure you pick a team which understands what it takes to build good quality, scalable, extensible software.

Advice to Management

Qualcomm is becoming more and more reliant on software. Please, for the love of everything, hire top software talent from outside the company to put Qualcomm on an innovative road again. Don't hire from within. Qualcomm doesn't understand what makes a good software engineer. We are much better at making chipsets.
