The upper management is extremely good at seeing problems and fixing them before they become a major issue. They are very smart in how they handle the finances and the market. Overall, a happy, stable environment in an industry where there is so much turmoil.
The middle management is extremely weak. So many old-timers, who were good or excellent engineers, have been promoted to middle managers. They are doing a very poor job of managing the day-to-day activity and the engineers under them. This makes for a highly stressful and inefficient work environment on a day-to-day basis, resulting in long hours for most engineers.
Please take a strong look at middle management and how they operate. The old timers, especially, are not interested in taking risks and are very content with their cozy positions. They are a hindrance to the growth of employees under them and to the overall company.
Please promote only engineers with good management acumen to management positions. For strong technical contributors, create a technical ladder and let them grow in that capacity rather than becoming managers.
They still continue to behave as engineers instead of managers.
