Pros

Opportunity to work on new technology.

I had several good supervisors.

Cons

There were a lot of managers who were technically smart, but not good at managing people or projects.

There were a few managers who displayed amazing immaturity. I could not believe they were in positions of authority.

Qualcomm executive management seemed to have "magical thinking" about the company's ability to overcome technical challenges and make things work. Sometimes having smart employees is not enough.

They spent vast sums on my projects over 5 years, but everything wound up in the trash can.

The "Internal Opportunity System" (aka IOS, the system to apply to different jobs within Qualcomm) is broken.

Advice to Management

Raise the level of "people skills" in your managers. Do a better job on due diligence for new technology initiatives and acquisitions. Fix iOS. Wake up to the fact that you are no longer the great place to work that you once were.
