Pros

Few perks are good.

Like:

  • Free lunch, breakfast, dinner
  • Local commute allowance
  • Good technology to work on.
Cons
  1. Pathetic management.
  2. Too much politics.
  3. If you don't butter your boss, you get no promotion, and your fellow team members get double promoted.
  4. Bad hikes. (I got 8%)
  5. Department-based rules.
  6. Moreover, it's like a school where each and everything has to be "communicated" to your lead. Basically, be on their "good side" by buttering them.
  7. No real projects to work on. Most of the products owned by the company are made by third-party companies/contractors, and Rakuten just buys the product.
Advice to Management

I would say there are better companies out there which would treat you like a real employee and not a corporate slave, where you love what you do and are not forced to be part of a project. There are very few opportunities for internal job transfer unless your manager himself wants to kick you out of the department (which happened to my friends).
