Pros
  1. You will be working with cutting-edge stuff.

  2. Build something innovative on a personal level and present it to management. I have seen employees' POCs become well-recognized products.

  3. Before Rakuten, I had never seen a company where a manager leaves their lunch when a team member calls for a code review.

  4. They try to follow Agile, but not truly.

  5. There are short-term onsite opportunities, and if you stay long, you may get long-term ones as well.

  6. Perks are above standard, and of course, there is free lunch and healthy breakfasts.

  7. The company has a large-scale business and big plans, so there is no job insecurity.

  8. Leaders are supportive and motivating.

Cons
  1. The company follows Japanese culture, which means it gives its best but expects the best. Sometimes it takes a while to understand the meaning of best.

  2. Punctuality is key. If you can't be committed and punctual, don't join this company.

  3. No drinks at parties.

Advice to Management

Apart from skillset, give priority to people who can adjust with the culture.
