Software Engineer Interview Experience - United States

Process

I chatted with a recruiter and then tried to schedule a technical screen. The earliest they could get me scheduled was two weeks later.

An hour before my screen, they informed me they had to postpone because the engineer got wrangled into a production issue. We rescheduled for the following week.

I sat patiently on Zoom waiting for the interviewer to show up. When it was five minutes past the scheduled time, I emailed the recruiters. Suddenly, the engineer showed up.

They didn't apologize for being late and quickly jumped into a generic introduction that felt insincere and as if they didn't want to be there. I gave my elevator pitch, trying to maintain my energy. Then they asked me a hiring manager question ("tell me about a time..."), which I found bizarre since I thought this was a technical screen.

While I was giving my answer, I could clearly tell they weren't listening to what I was saying. I could see the white glare in their eyes as they changed tabs in their browser.

Finally, we did the coding assessment, which was moderately difficult. I was able to complete it, and then there was a very awkward transition as the interviewer immediately said, "bye."

I received my rejection email the following day. I asked for feedback and was ghosted.

All in all, I imagine I'm dodging a bullet on this one. The company seems dysfunctional, and engineers are likely getting paged excessively.

TLDR; Complete disrespect for the candidate's time. This really changed my perception of Ramp as a company and left a bad taste.
