Principal Software Engineer Interview Experience - India

Process

I got a call from a consultancy, which later connected me to Razorpay HR.

There were a total of 5 rounds, out of which I gave 3 rounds.

  • The first round was with a VP where he discussed the current role and my aspirations.
  • The second round was a machine coding round. I was asked to code a load balancer, expose HTTP endpoints for it, then make calls to an external service using that load balancer, and show the round-robin distribution. I was able to code and run for command-line inputs but didn't have time to expose the HTTP endpoint.
  • The next round was system design, where I was asked to design a self-service system where developers can request a Cassandra instance for different environments and get it created with instance details in response. The interviewer seemed satisfied with the design, but somehow HR came with negative feedback, which is strange.

Also, I had to follow up multiple times to schedule the interview and for feedback. The process is really slow, and there is no transparency. It just felt like a waste of time.
