- Introductory Meeting:
- Describing where I am and how I built the team.
- Challenges solved.
Received a very confusing response: they liked me but not for this team, suggesting another. I clarified with the recruiter before proceeding, asking how the other team knew my feedback. They stated everything was transferred and the other team was excited to speak with me onsite.
Onsite:
- System Design:
- How would you build a chat system? The interviewer acknowledged and approved my answers at the end.
- Hiring Manager:
- Managerial standard questions.
After this, everything went silent. The recruiter informed me they were waiting for final feedback before moving to the next steps. An hour later, they sent a blank rejection email with no feedback.
This was a waste of time. They seem like novices trying to act like a FAANG company.

Great Product, Great Culture, Bad Business/Cronyism

Pros: Reddit is a company that cares deeply about its users and employees. The benefits are fantastic (base comp is a little low), the interpersonal culture and work-life balance are top-notch. The Slack channels pop off, and people are genuinely friendly to work with, as their basic needs are all met. The product is also very recognizable and noteworthy, with small teams having a big impact (without compromising a lot on work-life balance).
Cons: Leadership is just bad at business. There's a real lack of accountability for leaders, and for them growing or leveling up their teams.
Every meeting, all the way up to exec, seems to be run by "Top 3 things I was asked about this week." This leads to a culture of promotions for friends or buddies, often Director+ taking credit for their teams' work and getting promoted, but not promoting their teams. It seems like leadership is too full of people hiding from accountability, and they're all doing it together. We had a famous email where leaders just circle-congratulated each other.
