Senior Software Engineer Interview Experience - United States

Process

The interview process was very exciting. I applied online and interacted with a recruiter. She was very responsive and helpful. I asked for a specific condition regarding the interview process, and recruiting had no problem trying their best. They outperformed, in my opinion!

I had a quick call with the team's manager, followed by a technical screen related to the team's work. This led to the main interview, which consisted of six interviews in total: three technical and three non-technical. I prepared myself by brushing up on any and all skills.

Reddit provided some fantastic prep tips that really put my mind at ease. The single best piece of advice they provided was that the technical interviews were not to see whether or not I had the right answer, but to test how well I worked with others. It completely removed the stage fright and allowed me to think about the questions and communicate my thoughts, versus being expected to produce perfect code.

One thing I wished I had spent more time prepping were questions for the interviewers. I definitely spent time coming up with some, but I overlooked the fact that every interviewer asked me if I had questions for them. I could have spent more time on specific questions for each interviewer instead of only the ones I thought they'd ask me.

Questions

Technical questions were all very practical and related to work or the domain of Reddit.

Non-technical questions were mostly conversational and almost didn't feel like an interview.
